Penny Wars At Wolf Creek Online High School

Penny wars

The annual Penny Wars competition at Wolf Creek Online High School has been going on for the past two weeks. This year all the proceeds from the game went to the local Family Pathways Organization. Wolf Creek students enjoy this opportunity to help other people in the community.

Each Wolf Creek staff member had a jar with their names on it located in the great room on the Wolf Creek campus. Students were encouraged to bring in pennies, silver coins, and dollar bills to be a part of the game. Penny Wars consists of positive and negative points.  If someone put 40 pennies in Sean’s jar, Sean would have 40 points. Dollars and silver coins counted as negative points.

Students also brought in canned goods for Family Pathways Food Shelf: canned peas, canned tomatoes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap to earn points. The teacher who won the penny wars contest was Meagan Rathbun. It was nearly a tie at the end with Sandy Flint coming in second with overflowing jars of pennies.  The total amount of money raised was $81.21.

What's Happening at Wolf Creek This Year?

Here's What's Happening at Wolf Creek Online High School!

Sure this winter has been tough but not so much for our online students!  Having the flexibility to work anywhere allows them to stay at home when the weather takes a turn for the worst.  Despite the cold, we have managed to have a few great events on campus.

Student Art Show

Once again Wolf Creek students entered exceptional pieces of artwork to this year’s 3rd Annual Student Art Show Exhibition.

The show took place on January 21st – January 23rd.  The art categories included painting, drawing, photography, and handcraft.  Each student was allowed to enter up to three pieces to showcase their talents.  Judging took place on January 23rd by local Community Ed Director Barry Hindt and Wolf Creek School Board Chairmen Jeff Vitali.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes were awarded in each category.  Parents, students, and faculty members voted for Best of Show and the grand prize went to Megan Johnson of Taylors Falls for her drawing titled Castle Fairfax. Wolf Creek would like to thank each student for participating in this year’s art show and we look forward to seeing more work next year!

Wolf Creek High School Celebrates National School Choice Week

Wolf Creek Online High School celebrated National School Choice week with various activities. National School Choice week was held from January 26th-February 1st all around the nation. It was a great reminder to celebrate the choices that students across the nation have in finding a school option that works for them. Students enrolled in many schools of choice celebrated by holding events and open houses. Wolf Creek Online High School held an open house for the community on Saturday January 25th to kick off the week. During the open house cookies and hot cocoa were served while visitors viewed the online curriculum options and toured the campus located on Liberty Lane in Chisago City.  The organizer of the open house event, Special Education teacher Martha Airhart, stated that, “Currently Wolf Creek is the school of choice for over 120 students.  Our personalized and flexible online education prepares students for future success. “

Charter School Director, Tracy Quarnstrom, noted that “Minnesota is known for its commitment to school choice options through open enrollment, PSEO, and the highly rated charter school law”.   She also noted that “Minnesota was the first state to pass a charter school law in to existence and is the home of the first charter school. Students in Minnesota should be proud to have so many options when finding a school to fit their unique needs.”

While on campus during National School Choice week students and staff wore bright yellow scarfs to celebrate this unique event. (Photo submitted) Wolf Creek Online High School enrolls students in grades 9-12 and has a variety of choice options from full time to part time enrollment. Community members are encouraged to stop by the Wolf Creek campus for a tour any Tuesday or Thursday morning between 10-11am, or set up an appointment at 651-213-2095 or triowolfcreek.com.
