Wolf Creek Wins Toyota Drive For Education Grant
 
 After polling interest and investigating the needs of the school, Wolf Creek decided to apply for a grant to enhance the digital arts department on campus.  The grant requested funding towards a digital and photo lab where students could learn to manipulate and enhance digital photography or work on video editing. 
 
On February 15th Wolf Creek found out that they were selected to receive the grant and they will be awarded a check for $2,500 during the KSTP broadcast of the MN Boys State Hockey Tourney on Friday, March 8th.  They are also part of a finalist competition which runs through March 6th to win 10,000.  To help the school visit http://www.facebook.com/Prep45 and vote!
 
 
 


Wolf Creek Future Fair

Last week Wolf Creek Online High School had a future fair that offered an abundance of information from colleges and health booths. This list included the National Guards, The US Navy, MN School of Business, Pine Technical College, The Art Institute, North Central University, Century College, ,MN Business College, MN School of Cosmetology, and guest speaker Hanna Rivard from Thousand Dollar Hour.
On the opposite side of the building was vision screening, hearing screening, blood pressure check, Public Health, Substance Prevention, Outlook Clinic, Refuge Network, Youth Service Bureau, nutrition, mental health resources, and a visit from a local officer who demoed Fatal Vision Goggles to see how the effect of alcohol impairs your vision.
This event was a huge success and provided a lot of information to the students in attendance.

2nd Annual Student Art Exhibition
 
This year’s 2nd annual Student Art Exhibition was a huge success.  As always Wolf Creek was proud at how many talented students they were able support through a judged contest featuring 4 categories; painting, drawing, photography, and hand crafts.  The winners from these categories were; Painting 1st place, Feline by Katlyn Kirkup, 2nd Place, If the Dark Had Not the Light by Emily Koran.  Drawing 1st place, Jellyfish by Kayleigh Olson, 2nd place, Eye to Eye Perspective by Hannah Schulte, 3rd place, Anime by Kayleigh Olson.  Photography 1st place, Sunrise Sunset by Emily Koran, 2nd place, Rex and Rosie by Garret Mckenzie,  3rd place, Prince Charming By Taylor Clancy. Hand crafts 1st place, Knitted Hat by Dailyn Thelen, 2nd place, Two Face by Katlyn Kirkup.  Best of show was awarded to Katlyn Kirkup for her work Two Face.
Students were celebrated with an artist reception party on Tuesday the 22nd after judging took place.  Also on display were student bags and purses that were made in this year’s Visiting Artist Series.  Students designed the fabric and patterns and learned how to sew from the help of Sara Langworthy, an artist from the Minneapolis Textile Center.
A special congratulations to our student Emily Koran for receiving honorable mention at this year’s Lions Club Drug Awareness poster competition.

Digital Learning Day


This year Wolf Creek Online High School is excited to participate in the national celebration of digital learning that occurres today on February 6th 2013.  To celebrate Wolf Creek asked students to create a video talking about why they like being online learners.  This video can be seen for the first time on the school’s website at www.triowolfcreek.com
